Our Site Managers’ Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) refresher course is for site managers and agents looking to refresh their skills and knowledge.
This SMSTS refresher course reminds candidates of their responsibilities in relation to site safety and health and welfare. The two-day site management refresher course also provides a good understanding of current legislation relating to health and safety issues.
Who is this SMSTS Refresher suitable for?
To enrol on this course, candidates must hold a SMSTS certificate that has been obtained in the past five years.
SMSTS Refresher Course Programme
This two-day SMSTS refresher course covers the following topics:
- Current focus of HSE’s attention
- Risk assessment and method statements
- CDM Regulations 2007
- Construction Health, Safety and Welfare
- Roles and responsibilities of key duty holders under CDM 2007 Reporting of Injuries
- Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 1995

SMSTS candidates are encouraged to refresh their knowledge every 5 years.
Assessments
The SMSTS refresher course consists of 2 assessments:
- A multiple-choice examination paper
- Continuous assessment during exercises
You cannot receive a certificate without full attendance. Anyone unable to complete the course due to sickness or other circumstances must enrol on a new course and attend both days again.
Certification
SMSTS training certificates are valid for five years. However, due to changes in technology, the law, environmental management, and cultural behaviour, it is recommended that you take the SMSTS Refresher Course every five years.

To help you prepare for the assessment, you will be provided with homework assignments and interactive revision materials covered by the course fee.
These interactive revision questions are based on actual assessments and include immediate feedback. You can use these materials as many times as you wish.
